What we do
Every service starts the same way: a Legal Forensic Nurse Consultant reads every page. What you get back depends on what your case needs next.
Whether the file is 400 pages or 4,000, we read every line and keep only what matters. You get a clean, date ordered timeline of the treatment, the injuries, and the visits that never happened.
You have the timeline. Now you need the story. We connect the clinical dots into a plain English narrative that says what happened, why it matters, and what is missing from the record.
A nurse level look at whether the case holds up before you pour money into it. Causation, damages, standard of care, strengths on one side and the problems on the other.
We sit in on the defense exam with your client, prepare them beforehand, record the full duration, and hand you a written report on what actually took place in that room.
Our process
We are able to look at the potential case and tell you whether there is enough clinical substance to justify moving forward. Straight answer, no hedging. Skip to step 02 if you have already determined the case's merit.
The written product: the timeline, the clinical narrative, the deviations from the standard of care, red flags, notable causation clinician quotes, and the gaps we flagged along the way.
We match you with the right expert(s) to speak to the injuries and deviations, then stay on for deposition prep, transcript review, and trial support.
Why Legal Nurse Detective
A missing vitals entry, a vanished turn schedule, a med given at the wrong interval. Software will not flag it. A nurse who has charted it a thousand times will.
You get multi specialty medical analysis at a fraction of what an expert charges, which means you can screen more cases and commit to the right ones.
Our work is consulting work product. We are the strategist in your corner, not a name on the witness list.
Every conclusion is tied to a page and a source. Nothing is asserted that the record will not back up when the other side goes looking.
The short version
Medical Records Do Not Hide the Truth. They Bury it. Our Whole Job is Knowing Exactly Where to Dig.
No cost, no obligation
Thirty minutes on the phone with a Legal Forensic Nurse Consultant who has read a record exactly like yours. Come with questions, leave with a plan.
About
Registered Nurse. Legal Forensic Nurse Consultant. Professional finder of the one line on page 2,487 that changes the whole case.

Cher founded Legal Nurse Detective on a simple observation made across years at the bedside: the medical record always knows what happened. It just refuses to say it plainly. Charting is written by clinicians, for clinicians, under pressure, in shorthand. Handed to an attorney, it is a wall.
She spent her nursing career on the other side of that wall. She knows what a normal assessment looks like, which means she knows instantly when one is not normal. She knows what should have been documented in the hour after a fall, what a nurse is trained to escalate and when, and what the silence between two entries usually means.
That is the work now. Attorneys send her the file. She reads every page, and she comes back with the timeline, the narrative, the deviations from the standard of care, the extent of injuries, and the honest assessment of where the case is soft. Plaintiff or defense, she reads the record the same way, because the record does not care who hired her.
Direct and specific. You will not get a report padded with everything she found in order to look thorough. You will get what is relevant, sourced to the page, with the problems flagged as clearly as the strengths. If the case does not have merit, she will say so on the first call rather than on the third invoice.
She is based in Phoenix, works with firms in all fifty states, and still gets a genuine thrill out of the moment a buried entry turns a case sideways. The magnifying glass in the logo is not just a graphic.

The foundation everything else is built on. We review the complete record, identify what is clinically significant, and translate the medicine into language your team and a jury can follow. Pre-existing conditions, inconsistencies between providers, gaps in treatment, and documentation that does not match the injury claimed.
We organize complex records into a clear, chronological timeline that highlights the critical information: dates of care, providers seen, treatment rendered, and the gaps in between. Medical terminology gets explained in plain English so nobody on your team is guessing at an abbreviation.
A cohesive narrative that connects the clinical dots. Where the chronology gives you order, the fact summary gives you meaning: what happened to this person, how the care did or did not respond, and which facts carry weight at mediation.
We evaluate the injuries and the care delivered to determine causation and claim viability, then assess the records against the applicable standard of care. You get the strengths, the weaknesses, and a recommendation you can act on before you invest further.
We save you the trip and protect your client. We prepare them in advance to minimize liability, attend and audio record the exam for its full duration, and deliver a written report. Your client has a registered nurse beside them, and you have an independent account of what the examiner actually did.
We compile every charge, adjustment, payment, and lien into one accurate picture, with a listing of all files reviewed. Where the coding does not match the care documented, we flag it, because inflated or duplicated billing is a problem you want to find before opposing counsel does.
We locate and vet qualified experts matched to the specific needs in your case, prepare the medical questions that get useful answers, and analyze transcripts afterward for the admissions and contraindications worth returning to at trial.
For catastrophic injury and long term care claims, we project what this person will actually need for the rest of their life and what it will cost: future surgeries, therapy, equipment, medication, and in home care, documented and defensible.

FAQ
If yours is not here, put it on the free call. There is no version of this where asking costs you anything.
Nothing. The consultation call is free and it is a real conversation, not a sales pitch with a nurse attached. Describe the case, we will tell you what we would do with it, roughly what that costs, and how long it takes. If we do not think the case needs us, we will say that too.
Yes. Legal Nurse Detective is based in Phoenix and works with firms in all fifty states. Records arrive electronically, calls happen by phone or video, and work product is delivered securely. Geography has never been the hard part of this job.
A Registered Nurse who applies clinical training to litigation. We read medical records the way a nurse reads them, then explain them the way a legal team needs them explained.
In practice that means chronologies, fact summaries, merit and standard of care analysis, and flagging the red flags, the leverage points, and the things that are conspicuously absent from the chart. We are licensed medical professionals, which is the difference between a summary of the record and an analysis of it.
Anything with medical records in it. Most commonly that is: Personal Injury, Medical Malpractice, Nursing Home Neglect and Elder Abuse, Workers Compensation, Wrongful Death, Product Liability, and Motor Vehicle Accidents.
We work both plaintiff and defense. The record says what it says regardless of which side is reading it.
A paralegal can organize a record beautifully and will still not know that a set of vitals should have triggered a rapid response. AI can summarize text and cannot tell you that the documented wound care was clinically impossible on the schedule charted.
Reading records is pattern recognition built from years of actually delivering the care. We evaluate across specialties, we know what should be in the chart and is not, and everything we conclude is tied back to a source you can point to.
No, and that is intentional. We work behind the scenes as consultants, which keeps our analysis inside your privileged work product where it is most useful to you.
When your case needs testimony, we help you find the right expert and prepare the medical questions for them.
Legal Nurse Detective is owned and operated by a Licensed Registered Nurse that is a Certified Legal Forensic Nurse Consultant, with years of experience in bedside, outpatient, and home health settings.
It depends on volume and the services, but a typical chronology on a few hundred pages can move in days rather than weeks. Large multi-provider files take longer. You get a delivery date before we start, and if something changes you hear it from us first.
Working against a filing deadline? Say so on the call. Rush is often possible.
Through an encrypted transfer link we provide, or directly into your firm's own secure system if you would rather the files never leave it. Protected health information is handled under HIPAA at every step, from intake through delivery and eventual destruction.
By project or by hour depending on the work. Chronologies and fact summaries are usually quoted flat once we know the page count, so you know the number before you commit. DME and IME attendance is quoted per exam. Ongoing litigation support is hourly.
You will always get the estimate in writing first.
